Philadelphia School District holds first Deaf and Hard of Hearing Expo
The Philadelphia School District held its first Deaf and Hard of Hearing Expo on March 4th, 2020. The panel included information about hearing aids and captioning equipment, as well as student resources throughout the community.
The most exciting element? A table for Gallaudet University, a school for the deaf and hard of hearing. Thea Tynes, a sign language interpreter for the district, was overwhelmed by the students’ excitement.
“People were signing up – “There’s a college! There’s a college for me! There’s a college for deaf people!” And every one of them signed that paper,” Tynes said.
CLASS also enables families in similar situations to network and learn from each other.
